Description

The Maritime Medal 1940-1945 was instituted by Royal Decree of 17 July 1941 and awarded to Belgian seafarers and merchant navy members who displayed exceptional courage, dedication, or sacrifice during the Second World War. The bronze medal bears on the obverse a clawing Belgian lion in relief. It is suspended from a green moiré ribbon with narrow vertical white stripes, featuring a bronze badge of two crossed anchors.
