Medal of the Armed Resistance 1940-1945

The Armed Resistance Medal is a Belgian decoration awarded to civilians and military personnel who were part of the armed resistance movement during the Second World War. The medal represents courage, sacrifice and determination in the fight against the occupier.

The round medal is struck in bronze-coloured metal and depicts on the obverse a female allegorical figure with long hair, shown in a calm yet resolute attitude. This image symbolises the strength and dignity of the resistance struggle.

The large model of the Armed Resistance Medal is worn on a black moiré ribbon with two vertical red stripes and green borders. The black stands for mourning, the red for blood and sacrifice, and the green for hope and renewal.
