Medal NVOK/FNAPG Prisoner of War 1945-1985

The large model of the NVOK/FNAPG Prisoner of War Decoration 1945–1985 is a commemorative medal established in 1985 by the National Federation of Former Prisoners of War (NVOK/FNAPG) to mark the 40th anniversary of the liberation. It was awarded to Belgian former prisoners of war of the Second World War as a tribute to their suffering and courage in captivity.

The round medal in bronze-coloured metal features on the obverse a watchtower, surrounded by a chain border symbolising imprisonment. This powerful design directly recalls the camps in which many Belgian soldiers were detained during the war.

The large model of the NVOK/FNAPG Prisoner of War Decoration 1945–1985 is worn on a purple moiré ribbon with black, yellow and red stripes on each side, representing Belgium’s national colours.
