War Cross 1940-1945

The large model of the War Cross 1940–1945 is an official Belgian military decoration, created to honour Belgian soldiers and resistance fighters who distinguished themselves by acts of bravery and courage during the Second World War.

The medal consists of a bronze cross pattée with crossed swords between the arms. At the centre is a medallion bearing the Belgian lion in relief, surrounded by a fine border. The cross is surmounted by a royal crown connecting it to the ribbon.

The large model of the War Cross 1940–1945 is worn on a red moiré ribbon with three narrow green vertical stripes on each side, symbolising combat and hope.
