Surrounding the central medallion is the inscription “HABILETÉ – MORALITÉ” and “BEKWAAMHEID – ZEDELIJKHEID,” signifying skill, morality, and integrity — core values of recognised professional achievement.

At the top sits a silver-coloured royal crown, connecting the medal to the ribbon in Belgium’s national colours (black, yellow, and red) made of fine moiré fabric.
